A tailor-made API: small investment, big return
In almost all SMEs, the issue is the same: over the years, the company accumulates a series of software programs that work well but do not talk to each other: the accounting software does not communicate with the inventory management system; the Excel file used to track accounts receivable does not automatically generate reminder e-mails; the resource planning software (ERP) does not exchange any data with the CRM, etc. In short, this is the realm of double data entry and lack of administrative efficiency.
Replacing this software with an integrated solution like the one offered by Odoo would be ideal. But if this is not possible due to lack of budget or time, there is an alternative that does not require the launch of a mega project.
The solution: develop small custom APIs that will serve as connectors between existing systems. They used to be called “middleware”; today, a modest API in the cloud environment, often associated with a small robot, introduces interoperability capabilities that normally only large systems have.
The logic behind these APIs is simple:
- Data from a first system is retrieved without programming, in a non-intrusive way, via text exports or automated data entry on the screen.
- This data is then processed and converted according to the defined business logic.
- The data is then fed back into the other system.
- All this is done in real time to increase employee productivity tenfold.
It is very likely that some of your processes would become more efficient if two or more of your computer systems could exchange information. Contact us to discuss this. It would be our pleasure to evaluate with you the benefits of using an API.
